I’m looking to fresh up Jan Van with some new wheels. The biggest problem I am running into, is finding wheels that fit. I plan on keeping the same dimensions, because the tires are only a few months old. Dimensions are 16x7 inch with a 5x108mm (5x4.25 inch) bolt pattern. I feel like white looks great on the plain white (with black plastic trim and bumpers) body. I’ve narrowed it down to two choices:

Sparco Terra White Painted

Rally Van?!

Based on reviews, the biggest complaint is the Sparco lettering are stickers instead of paint or engraving. That’s not a huge issue with me. Another complaint was the difficulty cleaning them. They never specified how or why it’s difficult; just that it is. $150 per wheel is a good price for something that doesn’t look like I bought them at the local “Wheel World” or “Hot Wheels”

ORRRRRR

Pasti Dip Steel Wheels

Best reference I could find

Pros: Cost about $70 worth of aerosol cans. Color can be changed up if needed. Won’t have to borrow or take to a tire changer.

Cons: not as great looking as cheap rally wheels. Tough job to get done when I daily the van.

Opinions? Tips? Other color than white? Am I insane for putting rally wheels on a van? (hint:yes)

Rally wheels + 2" lift + decent ATs.

;)

Or maybe don’t listen to me....

I personally love the look of those Sparco wheels on the Transit. They’re just a little more special than Plastidipping.

White would be the biggest concern for me. I’d look into ceramic coating your wheels if you do decide to go white. It will make cleaning an easier task.

Although.. Tarmac all the things!

I debated on trying to get the van into at least one r allycross or autocross event. It needs more power, and I can’t find a lot of aftermarket for 2.5 Duratec

They look amazing , except they do not come in stock dimensions. I could just plasti dip them until I need new tires, then ge t wheels and tires together.

I wonder how it would fair with a simple intake/exhaust mod?

A lot of “economy” engines will net pretty impressive gains from simple mods.

Or one of these:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/MAZDA-FORD-DURATEC-2-3-2-5-T04E-TURBO-CHARGER-STAGE-2-KIT-INTERCOOLER-DIY-PIPING-/223356970541

That honestly might not be a bad way to start. See if you like how the white looks. Dip is a bit of pain to clean/remove , but if it’s on the stock rims, I wouldn’t worry as much. Also, I would recommend getting Plastidip clear coat to put on top. It makes it look way better than straight from the spray can.

Those wheels look so good on that van, however I believe it would look even better with a slight drop in ride height.

So, what you’re saying is you need some cool Volvo wheels, because my goodness there are a lot of them. and numerous in 16x7! (and if you get them from past 1998, you’ll have the offset you’ll need because FWD)

Or if you want to stick to Ford, I have a set of Gen 1 SHO Slicers in 16x6 taking up spaaace in the garage...

Always can add boost!! I plan on removing the very large and unnecessary muffler when it gets warmer, and replacing it w ith a flowmaster 10 series. The intake tube itself is fairly short to begin with, and I already dropped in a K&N for fun. There’s a known trick with these TC’s where you remove the intake muffler that’s attached to the front grill in front of the radiator. It becomes a makeshift CAI. I find it hard to believe that there is little to nothing for this engine. It served duty in Mazdas as well as Fords.

How much?! Bolt pattern fits?!

Is that a volvo website, or just an image? That looks heavenly

I agree with the ride height. They sell lowering springs for it that I have my eye on. I don’t know if I should go lower for looks, or higher for these Ohio winters. I also want to either rallycross or autocross at least once with the van. If I were to go plasti dip, I’d like to get the matte finish like the Sparcos.

Just an image of a poster they made, I’m afraid. but they use the 5x108 bolt pattern. It’s generally not too expensive to get a set of Volvo wheels secondhand.

and yeah, SHO Slicers fit bolt-pattern wise, they’re an offset of +45, I think, and I don’t know the center bore offhand.

TC’s offset is +50. I am not sure if that +5 is a huge difference or not. Center b ore is 63.4mm. At least that’s what the internet told me.

+5 is usually pretty damn manageable. in addition, the wheels will stick out 5mm so not much, at best. can probably make any of those wheels work.

Just a quick search online finds me plenty of CAI options for the 2.5 Duratec, I would think you could easily adapt one to work on the TC.

It also seems they made headers for it. I would think an intake/header/full exhaust system would probably net pretty noticeable gains.

Doesn’t seem too difficult to fabricate something on my own on the intake end. For the exhaust, I could do what I did to the Renegade: Delete everything past the catalytic converter, throw in a down pipe and call it a day ;)

I generally like to research and go with bigger piping if it nets gains.

My 3.0s for example all get 2.5" or larger piping as the 2" factory pipe is extremely restrictive on them.

Here you go, have some Volvo wheel. Pick some from that chart that you’d like to see on the van.

someday I’m going to find some OEM Focus wheels for mine. I just got tires, so probably not for another 4 years!

One can only dream!! In a perfect world, I’d throw some Fifteen52's similar to what Ken Block threw on his Gymkhana (spelled incorrectly, but you get it) vehicle. I’d lift it slightly, throw a turbo kit on it, and rallycross the van.
